SKYTRAIN TO DESTINY

2.30AM June 6th 1944
The prelude to Operation Overlord began with waves of C-47 Skytrains dropping parachute infantry into enemy occupied Normandy in the early morning darkness.
These C-47 Dakota Skytrain aircraft of the 87th Troop Carrier Squadron are dropping men of the 82nd Airborne over the floodplanes of the Merderet river near St Mere Eglise which
almost proved a fatal flaw in the planning!
The lead aircraft is C-47 Skytrain “Drag-em-oot” now preserved in flying condition at Headcorn Aerodrome in Kent.
